£0.5million spent on A5 inquiry

AN eight-week public inquiry into the proposed A5 Western Corridor cost over £0.5million the Strabane Chronicle can reveal. And this total includes nearly £80,000 to a barrister representing Roads Service a figure which has prompted an angry reaction from opponents to the scheme. Francis O’Reilly was hired by the Department of Regional Development (DRD), which is overseeing the new £850m duelling project proposed to run from Aughnacloy to Newbuildings in Derry. However, objectors to the new road, including farmers, home owners, business people, councillors and pressure groups did not receive any financial assistance in putting their case across.
