Calls for CCTV resurface after man sustains fractured jaw

January 26, 2012 at 10:20 am

THE subject of CCTV for Strabane was raised again this week, after yet another brutal assault left a local man with severe injuries.

Police in the town are appealing for witnesses after a man was left with a fractured jaw and severe swelling to the face following the assault on Butcher Street around 2am on Saturday morning.

The man was reportedly attacked by unknown persons outside a takeaway.
“This is totally unacceptable, whatever reasons or excuses are mentioned,” independent councillor for Strabane, Eugene McMenamin said this week.
“For a person to be attacked in this manner is just plain wrong and I think the sooner these culprits are caught, the better.

The lobby for CCTV for the town went on for years but it ultimately it fell apart when it became apparent it was so expensive to install and maintain.
“This is perhaps something that should be looked at again, given the number of attacks and assaults that have taken place since the turn of the year.
