THE mother of a 12 year-old Traveller girl from Strabane, says school bullies are making her daughter’s life hell. Theresa McDonagh, whose daughter only started Holy Cross College for the first time last September, says regular torment about being from the Travelling community has recently taken a physical turn for the worse.
The local girl, who says she has been bullied off and on “for months”, only revealed the true extent of the torture in recent days when she returned home with a ugly bruise all along her side. According to Mrs McDonagh, this was the result of a 16-year-old boy attacking her with a school desk and chair.
It is also understood that the bullying and abuse had escalated prior to Christmas, following an unrelated development within Strabane’s Travelling community. “I’m just terrified about what could happen when she’s at school,” Mrs McDonagh told the Chronicle. “She’s been bullied ever since she started but it was only after she came home with the bruise that she told me about everything that was happening.
