Pitch vandals threaten future of rugby club

STRABANE Rugby Club has warned it could be forced out of business after drunken vandals peppered a local sports pitch with broken glass.
The club was forced to abandon its weekend game against Rainey Old Boys following the discovery of smashed glass on the pitch on Bradley Way. Strabane District Council has now closed the pitch while further inspections are carried out.
The council were forced to take the same action in 2010, when two pitches had to be shut down following the discovery of broken bottle necks pushed into the ground.
Speaking after Saturday’s broken glass discovery, Strabane Rugby Club manager Gerry Taylor warned that they could be put out of existence altogether due to the lack of available facilities
