Holy Cross' Conal Crawford

A TALENTED young footballer from Strabane, who is currently attracting interest from a Premiership club, has this week spoken of his love of the game.

Holy Cross student, Conal Crawford, who most recently played a pivotal role in his school’s U16 victory against St Joseph’s Boys, Derry in the NI Schools Senior Cup Final, says the recent cup competition has provided invaluable experience – and he has international experience to boot.

Just last month, Conal contributed to the Northern Ireland U16s prestigious tournament victory in Malta.

“The (schools) final was tight. We won 1-0 on a penalty, so it was very close,” the midfielder admitted. “The wind was bad too, so that meant that which ever team didn’t have the wind behind them was under pressure.

“It was a brilliant day, in the end. The team went out that Friday night for a celebration – it was really good.”

He went on to say, “The Malta experience was brilliant and winning the tournament put the cherry on the cake.

“We didn’t think things would turn out that way after the way we started but we kept our heads down.”
