Joseph preparing to jet off for life saving treatment

May 31, 2012 at 9:13 am

JOSEPH McGarrigle, the man who prompted the biggest fund-raising drive in Strabane’s history, will today (Thursday) jet off for the treatment he hopes will save his life.

It is six months since the 31-year-old was dealt a brutal blow – that the cancer he beat three years previously had returned and he now had less than a year to live.

The news spurred an entire community into action, and since November more than £105,000 has been raised for the ‘Joe McGarrigle Stayin’ Alive Fund’. Across Ireland, Britain and even America, fundraisers have been held to finance the treatment Joseph needs for a particularly aggressive form of cancer.

At 5.20pm today Joseph will fly to London before travelling on to Dubai and then to a clinic in China which specialises in dealing with the rare cancer type he has been battling.
