JOHN Gallagher remains “an unrepentant and dangerous man”, his sister-in-law has said.
Sharon Gallagher, who lives in Strabane, broke her silence after Gallagher turned himself in after 12 years of dodging justice.
Gallagher, who has been living openly in Strabane for almost a decade, unexpectedly handed himself into Dublin Central Mental Hospital on Tuesday night.
It is 24 years since the Lifford man blasted his girlfriend Anne Gillespie (18) and her mother Annie (51) from Ballybofey to death with a shotgun in the grounds of Sligo Hospital.
This latest development, where the 46-year-old walked back into Dublin Central Mental Hospital on Tuesday night, is just the latest twist in a case that has gripped Ireland for over two decades.
Just why Gallagher has decided to turn himself in now remains unclear. However the family of his victims has claimed he would never have given himself up unless he knew he would walk free.
