NI WATER spent £20,000 repairing burst water mains along a single stretch of Strabane road last year, it has emerged.
Along the Berryhill Road the mains burst on 13 different occasions between May 2011 and April 2012, leaking thousands of litres of water.
Responding to questions by Regional Development Minister Danny Kennedy, NI Water said that due to funding constraints, they would be unable to begin replacing the mains in Dunamanagh until 2013 at the earliest. The news has been criticised by residents living along the Berryhill Road who say they are fed up with constant disruptions to their water supply.
Local man William Sayers this week described the situation as “pathetic” and called for NI Water to be made fully accountable for the disruption.
