Lifford church attack branded as ‘mindless’

MINDLESS thugs have attacked a church in Lifford for the third time in six weeks. Thousands of euro worth of damage was caused in the latest attack on Clonleigh Parish Church.

Speaking to the Strabane Chronicle, Rev John Hay, Dean of Raphoe-Lifford, said the attacks had horrified the people of Lifford where he said the Church of Ireland community are well respected in the area.

“This is not a sectarian attack. This is the work of a group of mindless youths who are using the church grounds as a drinking den and then desecrate it,” he said.

In the latest attack discovered on Friday the thugs kicked in the front door of the church, smashed pictures of former clergy, threw communion linen over the floor and tried to set the back door near the vestry on fire.
