Over 30 jobs to go at Strabane Social Security Office
STAFF at Strabane’s DHSS office have been told that upwards of 30 jobs are to be relocated away from the town.
The hammer blow came during a meeting with Social Security chiefs this morning.
It is understood that around ten staff will remain at the Urney Road offices when the changes are implented in September.
Reacting to the news, SDLP councillor Patsy Kelly described the situation as “wholly unacceptable”.
“This is a town with high unemployment levels and here we are being treated like second class citizens.
“This will put a huge burden not just on the people of the town who use the DHSS office but the staff who are being relocated. They will have to find extra money for fuel and other costs and it’s just not good enough.
“Strabane always seems to bear the brunt first when cuts are made and here we are again being left with a front line, second class service,” councillor Kelly said.
