TEN-year-old Rhianna McBride from Lifford will mark her own liver transplant anniversary this Sunday, with a charity walk around the Donegal town.
Rhianna, who was the smallest baby in the world to be transplanted at Kings College Hospital in London when she was just three weeks old and weighed four pounds, will lead the way this Sunday in a circuit of the town.
Speaking to the Chronicle last week, Rhianna’s mum Caroline says her daughter has been “flying” for the past 10 years.
“She’s on medication every day, so that her body doesn’t reject the liver and she’ll be on that for life,” she said.
Unfortunately, according to Caroline, the side effect of the drug is that Rhianna’s immune system doesn’t function properly.
“Even if she takes an infection she winds up in hospital,” she added.
