AN unprecedented number of international scouts will be attending this year’s Milk Cup, revealed chairman of the organising committee, Victor Leonard as County Tyrone launched their campaign in the Alley Theatre, Strabane on Thursday evening.
Leonard said that some 200 international scouts had already sought accreditation to attend the week-long tournament which this year’s kicks off on Saturday, July 21.
The long-serving chairman revealed that the eye-catching figure didn’t include scouts that were based in Ireland.
And he reminded the 36 lads who have been selected to represent Tyrone that the scouts weren’t coming to see the players playing for the professional club sides.
“These guys aren’t coming to watch Manchester United or Ipswich (Tyrone’s opponents on the opening day) but are coming to watch you,” said the chairman.
“This year for the first time the five confederations under FIFA will be represented in the Premier section at the Milk Cup. Our county players are playing teams that are from professional clubs and, although that makes it very difficult, it is my wish to one day see a county team standing on the podium on finals night at Ballymena.”
