FOYLE Hospice has begun recruiting runners for the London Marathon 2013 and is calling on members of the Strabane public to get involved.
The hospice has secured a number of guaranteed places for the challenge as community fundraiser Noel McMonagle explained.
“Last year our team raised over £40,000 for the work of the hospice, allowing our dedicated staff to provide ongoing palliative care services for our patients.
“Overall running costs for the Foyle Hospice in 2012 were £2.2million and with only 25 per cent funding from government we depend greatly on the support of our community through events like the Virgin London Marathon to raise the rest.
“The Virgin London Marathon is said to be the best marathon of them all. With the support of the crowds, fantastic atmosphere, this marathon is not one to miss,” Noel said.
As a fundraising event, the London Marathon is up there with the best of them, as runners take in Big Ben, Tower Bridge, Buckingham Place and Canary Wharf. It is one of the world’s greatest sporting spectacles where you can line up with world and Olympic champions and at the same time be running beside a giant rabbit or Elvis.
