McCauley calls for security upgrade at ‘drinking den’ flats

A STRABANE councillor has called for greater security measures at a block of flats to prevent it being used as a drinking den.

Sinn Féin’s Jay McCauley met with a senior Housing Executive official on Monday morning to press for the introduction of measures to stop young people gaining access to the flats at Brigade Terrace.

According to Cllr McCauley, the stairwells of the apartment block are being used almost daily as a drinking den.

“Residents of the six flats and adjoining homes at Brigade Terrace have described as an ‘ongoing nightmare’ the activities of young people who have been using the stairwells and common areas of the flats as a drinking den,” Cllr McCauley said.
