Adria site owner ‘financially unable’ to secure site

THE owner of Strabane’s Adria site is financially unable to secure the land, residents have been told.
People living in the vicinity of the former factory site confronted property developer Kevin Crumley about on-going problems during a meeting with councillors and council officials today (Wednesday). Mr Crumley visited Adria following a deliberate tyre blaze last week which briefly threatened homes at Ashgrove Park.
Angry residents highlighted a range of issues arising from the abandoned land which has become a playground for young vandals, drinkers and arsonists.
While the site owner declined to speak with the press, he did tell local councillors that he is in no financial state to fully secure the land.
Speaking after the meeting, described as “hot and heavy”, the SDLP’s Patsy Kelly said that it could be years before the former textile factory site is developed.
“Mr Crumley is in a position where he has not got the money to secure the site or develop it. He has tried in the past but the bottom line is that he doesn’t have the money,” Mr Kelly said.
