Killen native youngest ever female councillor in Omagh district area

Soon to be the new UUP councillor, Lesley Vennard.

KILLEN native Lesley Vennard is set to become the first ever female Unionist councillor in Omagh.

At the age of 24, Miss Vennard is also believed to be the youngest ever councillor in the Omagh District Council area.

She has been chosen as the replacement for West Tyrone MLA Ross Hussey who has formally resigned his council seat this week as part of his election commitment not to ‘double job’.

Having worked in the UUP West Tyrone constituency office for the past 18 months, the former Castlederg High School pupil said she is looking forward to adding a young female voice to the experienced UUP team of Cllr Bert Wilson and Cllr Alan Rainey.

Miss Vennard said, “Working closely with Ross in the office I have seen first-hand a lot of the problems people are facing and I think in a lot of situations, they may feel more comfortable speaking to a woman.
