McColgan doesn’t expect a strong start
DESPITE parting company with the Sion connection and losing the services of ace goalscorer Conor Carlin to Championship One side Dergview, Strabane FC manager Brendan McColgan is optimistic about his side’s chances of securing silverware in the season ahead.
Strabane launch their season on Saturday by hosting Newbuildings in the opening round of the Pharmacy Supplies Intermediate League Cup at Melvin.
The north Tyrone outfit won’t be at full strength for the visit of double defending champions and McColgan admitted it would be a month into the season before he would have a full deck to select from.
“We’ll be competitive for the opening matches of the league cup but as the weeks pass we will definitely get stronger,’ said the manager.
“I think we could give the league a run this season and we’ll be going out to win every game.”
McColgan admitted that he was disappointed to lose Carlin who netted almost 30 goals last season but flagged up the fact he had added real depth to the squad with a raft of new signings.
Among those putting pen to paper for Strabane is recognised goalkeeper Dylan Early, the Burndennett pair of Paul McGettigan and Mickey McDaid and the pacy Rishane McGrinder.
