Residents demand answers

RESIDENTS in the Ballycolman Estate are demanding answers after the police sent a civilian community worker to investigate a weekend bomb alert.

The alarm was raised at around 3am on Monday after a coffee jar device packed with wire and nails was discovered on a road into the Ballycolman.

Despite numerous emergency calls, the PSNI failed to attend but instead rang the vice-chair of the Community and Safety Partnership (formerly the DPP), who attended the scene.

By the time the community representative arrived a resident had already moved the device, described as ‘an elaborate hoax’, away from houses and traffic.
