Sigersons ‘keeper out for two years

Strabane Sigersons ‘keeper Shane McGonigle

STRABANE SIGERSONS goalkeeper Shane McGonigle’s footballing career is in the balance following a freak injury sustained during his side’s weekend Championship clash with Rock.

The game in Fintona on Sunday evening was delayed for almost an hour after the 19-year-old dislocated his knee during a half-time warm up. After being rushed to hospital his leg was plastered from hip to thigh and Shane has now been informed that he could be out of action for up to two years.

Recalling exactly how the injury occurred, Shane told the Strabane Chronicle, “It was half time and we (the team subs)  were sent out to warm up.

“A shot came in and I went to run for the ball. But my foot leg stayed planted in the ground and my body turned.”
