MANY of the world’s most prominent figures were on hand to watch the Olympic opening ceremony and right there among them was local man Kieran O’Kane.
Kieran was selected earlier this year as one of the thousands of volunteers working behind the scenes to keep the Olympic ball rolling. And on Friday evening, he took up his role as meeter and greeter to the stars. Among those on the radar of the local sports coach was none other than American First Lady Michelle Obama.
“The guests started arriving at about 5.30pm and our job was to look after them and just answer any questions they had. But we didn’t know who we would be looking after until about five minutes before hand.
“In my section were people like Michelle Obama, the Prince of Greece, the Irish Ambassador, all the world’s sports ministers and many former Olympic champions. It was unbelievable,” Kieran said.
