A STRABANE man has turned a £20 bet into a staggering £60,000 after hitting the jackpot in a Birmingham casino.
University student Liam McKane beat odds of more than 540,000/1 to scoop the cash on Saturday night. Liam was on a night out with friends when he landed one of the biggest windfalls in the casino’s history.
Speaking this week, the delighted 25-year-old said he couldn’t believe his luck.
“I’ve only been in London for four weeks on placement from Jordanstown. My mate Paddy and his girlfriend arrived in Birmingham for the weekend on Friday so I arranged to go up and meet them.
“My plan was to go back to Ireland on the Saturday but Paddy convinced me to stay another night. So on the Saturday we decided to go to this one casino but his girlfriend suggested the Gala Casino because it seemed to be lucky,” Liam explained.
It was this last minute change in direction that sparked the jackpot moment.
