THE future of Strabane’s Greenfield Home is in doubt once again after the Health Board unveiled plans to cut its residential care facilities by half.
A delegation of top healthcare officials were expected to table their new ‘Transforming Your Care’ (TYC) document before Strabane District Council last night.
The 97 page report contains 99 recommendations for revolutionising healthcare across Northern Ireland over the next five years.
Included in the recommendations is the “very significant reduction” in Government run care homes, with up to half of all facilities across Northern Ireland set to close by 2017.
Instead the Health and Social Care Board says it will support older people to maintain their own independence and manage the functions of daily living in their own home or assisted housing.
