AHEAD of tonight’s (Thursday) rescheduled Championship One clash against north west neighbours Institute, Dergview boss, Tommy Canning has praised the huge contribution made by new club captain Liam McMenamin in the opening weeks of the season.
The accomplished defender replaced the departed Garbh Gallagher at the beginning of the season and as well as being a colossus in defence has led by example at all times.
The former Sheffield Wednesday trainee has even managed to get in on the scoring act. On Saturday the new skipper, who not surprisingly was named the club’s player of the month for August, fittingly scored the fourth and final goal in an impressive 4-0 victory against Loughgall United at Lakeview Park.
“Defensively Liam has been very consistent in the past number of seasons but he certainly seems to be enjoying the role as skipper,” said Canning.
“So far this season he has been so so good but he brings so much more to the table than just defending. His organisation, his attitude towards his fellow players and the club is first class.”
