Watermills: Past, Present and Future

Watermills: Past, Present and Future – the industrial heritage lecture – will take place in Strabane on Saturday week (September 15).
Starting with a series of talks at the Alley Theatre, the event is also set to include a tour of the Strabane area’s mills, in Burndennet, Dunamanagh and Glenmornan, exploring the legacy and future of this aspect of our built and natural heritage.
The day too will feature the lesser known mills of the area. For example on the Dennett River alone there were at least 26 mills of various types – paper, scotch, corn, and timber.
Fred Hammond, the leading industrial archaeologist and William Roulston, local historian on the social history of the mills will join with Dr Liam Campbell from the Foyle Civic Trust in hosting the event. They are currently appealing to anyone who would like to take part to book places through the Alley Theatre.
