Strabane Lifford Cycling Club held their penultimate 2013 racing league event last Thursday evening. Competitors took part in a 10 mile time trial on the Lifford to Castlefin road.

The current spell of good weather made conditions on the night difficult as the cyclists had to contend with high temperatures as they battled against the clock in the time trial.

On the night Omagh Wheelers rider Ivan Reid won the time trial with an impressive time of 23 minutes and 23 seconds.

Second place went to Caldwell Cycles rider David Donaghy who recorded a time of 23.29, Strabane Lifford rider Paul Coyle came third on the night with a time of 23.43, this result gave Coyle maximum league points on the night as he was the highest place SLCC rider in the event.

This time trial event also saw the battle at the top of the racing league intensify, with league leader Shane Kelly finishing as the third SLCC rider on the night.

His nearest rival Kieran Porter finished as the second place SLCC rider thus gaining a point on Kelly on the night and narrowing the gap between first and second in the league to just one point with Kelly sitting on 65 points at the top of the league and Porter sitting on 64 points.

After eight competitive league events it is exciting to see that only a point separates the top two riders this season.

The league will be decided in the final event of the season which is a 32 mile Road Race that takes place tonight at 7pm, the race starts and finishes at Maggies Tavern outside Lifford.

The club would like to thank all marshals who helped out during the time trial, this help led to Strabane Lifford Cycling Club hosting another safe successful competitive event on the night.
