Goalkeeper Tom for Tottenham

A PROMISING young goalkeeper from Strabane has got his foot on the first rung of the ladder in fulfilling his ultimate ambition to play professional football with one of the top clubs in England.

Last week talented teenager Tom McDermott signed a two-year scholarship with Premiership giants Tottenham Hotspur after attacting interest from a number of cross-channel clubs including Sheffield United and Swansea.

The 16-year-old will officially join the Enfield-based Spurs Youth Academy on July 1 in the hope of securing a full professional contract and establishing a long career at White Hart Lane.

McDermott, a product of the Dungannon United Youth set-up, first attracted the attention of Spurs scouts following an impressive performance for Northern Ireland U16s in defeating England 1-0 in the Victory Shield back in October.
