Two wins on the bounce for Sion Ladies

SION Ladies made it two league wins on the bounce with a nervy but fully deserved 1-0 victory over Ballymena Allstars at Michelin Park.

With three changes to the starting eleven from the previous week, Sion started brightly with McGlynn and Conor combining well down the right side.

It was from one of McGlynn’s crosses that Sion should have taken the lead when Ward’s half volley was brilliantly blocked by the outstanding Ciara McCoy in the Ballymena goal and she recovered to foil Brennan’s follow up.

Sion eventually took the lead on 22 minutes when McMullan picked a ball up on the halfway line and drove forward to unleash a stinging 25-yard piledriver into McCoy’s top right corner for a superb goal and a deserved lead for the Co Tyrone girls.

Instead of forcing home their advantage Sion had their keeper Marley to thank for pulling off two great saves, diving bravely at the feet of Wright in quick succession to keep the lead intact.
Sion finished the half strongly with McCoy again to the rescue with an incredible triple save from McGlynn twice and Brennan in the same attack.

The second half began with Sion in total control with Burns and McShane dealing comfortably with any Ballymena attack.

The Swifts went on to totally dominate the the remainder of the game with a succession of glorious chances going a miss. Brennan, Ward and M Glynn really should have increased the Swifts lead but an exhibition of fine goalkeeping from McCoy in the Ballymena goal meant the game remained in the balance right up to the final whistle. The game finished with Marley a virtual spectator as the Sion midfield of Crompton, O’Hagan and McMullan bossed proceedings.
