STRABANE kickboxer Ciaran Boyle says an optimised training and diet regime will leave him ready and primed for the forthcoming world amateur tournament in Spain.
Set to take place in Alicante in October, the WKU Championships will also feature local fighter, Darach Devine, a student of Ciaran’s.
Ciaran (36), who has already had a number of high profile fights across his career, most notably those two world title bouts in 2014, says current preparations are progressing well and that both he and Darach are hoping to bring silverware home.
However with over 60 countries taking part in the week-long tournament, both kickboxers will be tested to their limits.
” In this one, you have to fight everyday and it you get to the final then you’ll be fighting maybe five times,” Ciaran explained.
” To quality, we entered a tournament in Derry in July. I came away with a gold medal and Darach got a silver. The training is going well so far. We’re travelling to other clubs to do a bit of sparring. I haven’t really stopped all year but next week things move up a bit.
“ We’ll be picking up the sprints and that kind of thing. The heavy training starts eight weeks before the start of the tournament.”
Ciaran also paid tribute to his sponsors.“ Kieran Dunne from KD Catering has been supplying me with all my meals and that has been brilliant. I know that I’m eating the right stuff and because I’m not hungry after meals. I’m less likely to be snacking on the bad stuff. It’s great.”
He continued, “ Jason O’Neill has been a big help to me too and my person trainer Sean Mills has been brilliant too. I can’t thank them enough for all their help and sponsorship. We’re confident. We’re going out here looking for a medal.”
