With some 15 minutes remaining substitute Ryan O’Kane scampered through onto Aaron Gavigan’s long punt forward to head the ball over the advancing Louis Leonard and into the net.

But much to the disgust of the travelling support the match official ruled the goal offside.

The north Tyrone visitors started slowly and fell behind when Richard Flaherty watlzed past two defenders to fire beyond Glebe stopper Chris Burke.

That goal came after Danny Leonard had cleared Burke’s crossbar with a rising shot as Athletic made the early running.

United though levelled matters on 33 minutes when Brian Sweeney picked the pocket of a defender around the halfway line before dashing clear to round Leonard and steer the ball into a gaping net.

Earlier Adam McElwee had a shot cleared and moments into the second half a goal-bound effort by Eamon McGrath was diverted past a post by team-mate Aaron McNamee.

Then after O’Kane had his effort chalked off, Rachid Rihane struck a post before Sweeney’s follow-up was blocked.
