The examination took place under the watchful eye of Masao Kagawa, chief instructor of the JKS and World Karate Federation who had travelled from Tokyo especially for the grading.

The candidates had been training for several months prior to the day in order to be in tip top condition. Club instructor Simon O’Dowd said it was another landmark day in Strabane Shotokan’s proud history.

“ We are very proud of the level of the students we produce, those who achieve a black belt at our club know they have earned it. Mark, Sharah and Ellie put a lot of work and fully deserved the positive result.  A great day for the club and the town,” Simon added.
