Strabane and Ardstraw will lock horns at Vaughan’s Holm

ARDSTRAW will bid to complete an early season double over neighbours Strabane Athletic when the sides meet in a crunch derby clash at Vaughan’s Holm this afternoon (Saturday).

Early in the season Gary Simpson’s men defeated Athletic 3-2 to advance to the last four of the NI Intermediate League Cup.

On that occasion a deflected shot by Stephen Campbell ultimately proved the difference.

Another close encounter is anticipated this afternoon as Athletic look to bounce back following a disappointing 4-1 league defeat to Oxford United Stars at Melvin on Saturday.

So far it’s been something of a mixed bag for Strabane as Neil Carlin and his players continue to strive for consistency.

Ardstraw have no such problems. The Vaughan’s Holm outfit are riding high at the top of the table having won their opening three games as well as reaching two cup semi-finals.

The stage is set for an intriguing tussle.
