A SPONSORED walk and charity night will take place next weekend in aid of a Clady man who was seriously injured in a fall on St Patrick’s Day.

‘Knockavoe for Joe’ will take place on Saturday April 22 and it is anticipated that the walk will depart from St Catherine’s Primary School at 12noon bound for Knockavoe. The evening’s event kicks off in Christy’s Bar later that evening from 9pm.

Joe Lafferty suffered a fall on St Patrick’s Day which resulted in serious head injuries. He is currently in the high dependency unit of Altnagelvin Hospital where he is in a coma.

This week Joe’s niece, Stacey Lafferty explained that any monies raised from the dual event will go towards helping the family with expenses whilst Joe is in hospital.

“He might have fallen down the stairs on St Patrick’s Day, we just don’t know,” Stacey said. “He wasn’t found until the next morning.

“At the minute he’s basically in a coma. It was touch and go for a while on the Saturday after St Patrick’s Day.

“Any money raised will help the family out with travel expenses and things like that. Every little will help.”

Sponsor forms for the walk are available from Christy’s, Peak Performance, Kirk’s Bar and Smugglers’ Bar and Restaurant in Clady. Alternatively walkers can make a donation on the day.

Stacey also remarked that she has been overwhelmed by the generosity in sponsoring the prizes for the raffle.

“Everyone’s welcome to come along to both the sponsored walk and the night at Christy’s,” she added.
For further information or to donate to the event, contact Stacey through the Knockavoe for Joe page on Facebook.
