Alley sizzles into summer

Launching the Alley Theatre Summer Programme are Emma Devine (marketing officer), Jacqueline Doherty (operations manager) and children from the Arts Academy, from left Ava Vaughan, Mia Kerrigan, and Niamh Lamont

Now in its tenth year, the Alley Theatre welcomes a new programme full of events for the coming summer months. Always keen to support local musicians the Alley Bar Open Mic Nights are back this July and August and to boot, Sounds Like Summer Music Competition will return this summer.

“So if you are a musician and would like to take part in this fabulous competition get in touch,” a spokesperson for the Alley remarked.

The Three Rivers Brass Band will launch the Summer Jamm Music Festival on June 9, a perfect start to what is going to be a rocking weekend full of Ireland’s best rock and country stars performing in the Canal Basin.

Other music events to look forward to this summer are Outlaw Country, Jazz Gazette, Burning Love – A Celebration of Elvis, Lore and Niamh McGlinchy, The Whistlin Donkeys, Fred Morrison and Donna Taggart.

June sees a one man play come to the theatre as Martin ‘Jim’ McFadden tells his true and personal account of his battle with his bottle and his demons.  This honest story of wildness and debauchery will keep you laughing through the hideousness of the darkness.

Family Theatre and fun for the summer includes Humpty Dumpty’s Big Eggventure and There and Back Again An Odyssey by Cbeebies Patrick Lynch. Follow Patrick as he launches Ulysses and his companions on fantastic 20 year voyage back home.

The pupils of St Mary’s Primary School will be presenting Robin and the Sherwood Hoodies in June.

The spokesperson continued, “Kids if you are looking for something to do over the summer months look no further as the ‘Summer School of Rock’ is here in July.  Join us for one week full of fun and music workshops with the Arts Academy. You will learn musical instrument skills along with group singing, stagecraft and recording skills. If dance is more your thing then learn the moves of ‘Jive in Summer School’ of Jive in August.

“Encouraging young talent is something we are proud of at the Alley Theatre and we are delighted a number of local dance and drama groups are joining us this summer including Encore Performing Arts Academy who will take to the stage in their annual dance recitals in ‘Dream – Believe and Achieve’ as well Encore’s ‘End of Year Musical Theatre Showcase’. The Arts Academy will also be back with their ‘Summer Variety show’.”

“Our spacious art gallery will host a variety of exhibitions this summer including textile, sculptures, paintings and photography,” the spokesperson added. “Showing currently is Dr Ann O’Mahony and Jane Dunn exhibition ‘Voice.’”
