Dergview snap up new striker

New Derg signing Robbie Godfrey flanked by Richard Clarke and Gary Simpson

DERGVIEW have strengthened their attacking options ahead of the new season by signing striker Robbie Godfrey

The experienced attacker was top scorer at Ardstraw last season and his goals helped the Vaughan’s Holm outfit to finish runners-up in the Northern Ireland Intermediate League.

Godfrey was also part of Harry McConkey’s initial Regions’ Cup squad in preparation for last November’s qualifying tournament in Macedonia.

It is understood a number of clubs had declared an interest in Godfrey but the former Foyle Wanderers striker has decided his immediate future lay at Darragh Park.

Dergview boss Richard Clarke was delighted Godfrey is his first major signing of the close season.

“I am delighted to have signed Robbie for next season, he’s a great attacking option, works hard and scores goals,” said the former Portadown midfielder.

β€œHe was sought after by a number of clubs but was keen to come on board and the challenge of playing in NIFL Championship is something he is looking forward to.”

DERGVIEW confirmed four new signings following Saturday's penalty shootout victory over Ballinamallard United in the Forsythe Memorial Cup.
