Gallagher predicts first round win in Big Apple

James Gallagher is heading to the Big Apple

JAMES Gallagher plans to make a massive impression on his American debut, by taking his opponent out in the first round.

The Strabane man will face Brazilian fighter Chinzo Machida at the Bellator 180 in the world famous Madison Square Garden venue in New
York next weekend, in what he describes as the fight of his life.

Part of Conor McGregor’s SBG team, the 20-year old ‘Strabanimal’ plans on maintaining his unbeaten record despite having, ‘great respect’ for
his opponent.

The Brazilian is the elder brother of former UFC champion light heavyweight Lyoto Machida and both Machida brothers are recognised for
their world class karate.

“Machida has been in the game a long time,” said Gallagher. “His family is very well respected in the martial arts scene, but I’m still going to take him out in the first round.”

Despite training at high intensity for the past eight weeks Gallagher says he has been preparing for this fight his whole life.

“I am prepared to go to New York and I am prepared to win,” he said.

“Fighting in one of the biggest sporting venues in the world, is something I have been working towards since I started UFC.

“When I win on June 24,” he continued, “I am going straight to the top-the world title will be next.”

Blown away by the support from the Irish both at home and abroad Gallagher added, “I want to thank everyone who is travelling to see
the fight, my parents and my coaches. The Irish are coming to New York and I’m going to steal the show.”

Bellator 180 takes place at Madison Square Garden in New York, on June 24.
