Local fitness model Kerry Green, fresh from her win at the World Beauty Fitness and Fashion (WBFF) show, has her eyes now firmly set on the World title in August.

Kerry, from the Ballycolman, picked up a WBFF Pro Diva Fitness title and card at the recent competition in Body Power in Birmingham to become Ireland’s first Pro Fitness Diva. She is now in training for the World Championships which are happening in London on August 26.

Speaking this week the 25-year-old says she is proud of her achievements.

“I am proud of myself,” she says. “I am the only girl in Ireland to have won a Pro Diva Fitness Card. That is a major achievement. I am so blessed. In winning that I qualified for the World Competition in August. I will be the only Irish girl ever to qualify. I am in the highest category and have good hopes of success. I have been told that the judges are looking for a new look and that I would be perfect for that. We’ll see.”

Kerry has had to work really hard to get the success she is now enjoying, and it hasn’t been an easy journey for her.

“I am just a normal girl from a small town with big dreams,” she says. “I set goals and I have achieved them but I didn’t get anything handed to me. My childhood was not the best. I have had my fair share of heartache and pain. I lost my father to suicide when I was just 16-years-old, and then my uncle. At that point my life fell apart.

“I didn’t know where I was heading, I was just stuck in an unhappy place. I really didn’t know how to get out of it, but I knew this was definitely not the life I wanted to live.  So I said to myself I want to do something that will not only make me stronger on the outside but also stronger in the inside.

“I was struggling to find a way to achieve that and then something amazing happened. Danny McCrory came into my life and changed it for the better. He took me to my first ever fitness show and from seeing the girls on stage, all looking absolutely amazing, something inside of me switched on. I knew that’s what I wanted to do”.

Danny became Kerry’s prep coach, as well as her partner, and prepped her for all four fitness shows.

“In the space of under two years I had two first places behind me, from the XFS show in Derry, starting from Miss Bikini and making my way up to Miss Fitness,” she says. “And then to go onto the WBFF, one of the biggest federations in the World, where I placed second in Europe. Then just six months later I stepped on stage again with the WBFF in Birmingham at Body Power, where I placed second and also won my WBFF PRO card and became the first WBFF Pro Diva Fitness Model in lreland.”

Kerry says the people from Strabane have been her biggest cheerleaders.

“The love and support from my home-town has been so amazing,” she says. I’m a barista in Costa and customers are always wishing me luck. They are so nice. Everyone has given me so much love, I will always be thankful to them. I have been supported by so many amazing people. My life has now just begun. I know my path to take and what I want in life.”

And Kerry has this advice for women about chasing their dreams.

“I know what I was born to do and that’s stand under those stage lights and show the world who I am. I am a girl from Strabane, standing proud and empowering woman to be the very best they can be. We all have a superhero inside of us and one day your hero will be able to shine too. I think all woman should support and love each other and pull together and embrace the girl power. If I can do what I love, then so can you. Nothing in this life gets handed to you, and something worth having doesn’t come easy, you have to work for it.

“My next goal in life is to take a full year off and start my own business. I’ll be taking woman’s classes at my local gym Peak Performance.     I want to help girls get motivated and get in shape and to help them learn to love their bodies.

“I will then go on to compete in a PRO Level category up alongside other WBFF Fitness Divas who I have been looking up to for the last two years. I want to then move on and do the WBFF World’s Show. There’s no other show on the planet that is like the WBFF. It’s the best and it’s where the stars are made. You have to be the best to be with the WBFF family.

“But I will always remember where I came from. You can take the girl out of Strabane but you can’t take Strabane out of the girl!”
Kerry will take part in the WBFF Worlds London on August 26 at London’s O2 Arena.
