Strabane device confirmed as viable

The scene of the security alert at Drumrallagh Estate on Sunday.

POLICE have confirmed the  suspicious device placed under a young Strabane mother’s car was a viable pipebomb.

The Drumrallagh Estate in the Head of the Town area was sealed off from around midday on Sunday (July 16 ) as police mounted a security operation following reports that a suspected bomb had been left under a car.

Detective Inspector Fisher said, “A viable pipebomb type device was made safe by ATO and has been recovered by police.

“A number of residents were moved from their homes during this alert. Those who left this device in a residential area clearly have no regard for the people living here and I am appealing for the community’s support in identifying the perpetrators.”

The security alert ended at approximately 9.30pm

Police would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity in the area to contact detectives at the Criminal Investigations Branch, Strand Road on 101, or if they wish to remain anonymous Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
