A STRABANE woman remains in the running in this year’s She’s Fabulous Miss Intercontinental Ireland and Northern Ireland.
Lisa McAuley from the Orchard in the town, says that if she wins, she would use her title to “empower women” across Ireland.
“It was advertised on Facebook and Instagram and all you had to do was apply,” the 23-year-old explained. “So I applied.”
She added, “I was delighted when I heard I’d been short-listed.”
A previous model in the Topher Lily Fashion Show in 2014 at the Guildhall, this is the first time the Orchard lady has embarked on anything of this magnitude.
The grand final will take place at the City Hotel in Derry on September 17 where two lucky girls will be chosen to represent Ireland and Northern Ireland at the Miss Intercontinental International Final. This will take place at a foreign resort yet to be decided.
Until then however, Lisa will have to undergo pageant training, interviews and swim suit and ballgown modelling rounds. Having already planned to tie the knot next year with fiancé Danny Houston, Lisa admits walking away with the title would be the ultimate way of ending her maiden status.
“What I would do with the title…” Lisa continued. “I want to empower women across Ireland. I want to tell people how they can do anything if they put their minds to it.”
Currently Lisa is looking for sponsorship to take part in the event. To that end she has set up a Go Fund Me page, Miss Intercontinental Ireland/NI. The official charities for this year’s event are Me4Mental and the Rainbow Re-homing Centre for Cats and Dogs.
