Diwali Festival to light up Strabane

Strabane Ethnic Community Association (SECA) has kicked off its week long events for the annual Diwali Festival of Lights.

STRABANE Ethnic Community Association is lighting up the town with a string of events to mark the annual Diwali festival.
Diwali is known as The Festival of  Lights and every year it is marked by millions throughout the world in a global week of celebrations.
The festival also coincides with the Hindu New Year.
Locally it is one of the biggest events in SECA’s calendar.  It’s also the perfect opportunity for locals to really experience the Indian culture – and of course enjoy some beautiful culinary delights.
The festivities kicked off today (Thursday, October 19) with an informative presentation on Diwali for local schools in the Alley Theatre.
On Saturday (October 21) there will be a range of Indian cultural workshops available at the SECA offices providing information and skills on traditional Indian dress and art.
Ending the celebrations on a high there will be a special Diwali Evening in St Pat’s Hall next Saturday, October 28 at 7pm.
The popular event will include an array of Indian dishes to tickle your tastebuds, followed by an evening of Indian music and dance.
The grand finale will be an Indian fashion show, displaying the vibrancy and colour of Indian dress and admission is £3.
