Search is on for lead actor in ‘The Comedian’

Local film maker Ray McCarron is looking to cast a female lead in his new project.

A WELL-known local photographer is looking for the last piece of the jigsaw, in terms of his new film project.

Photo-journalist-turned-film-maker, Ray McCarron has had a short film in pre-production for the past six months. ‘The Comedian’ is a drama about a woman who turns to stand-up comedy to “dish out her criticism of the world.”

However, despite having the rest of the project ready to go, there remains the no-small matter of casting the female lead.

“Basically, I’m looking for a lead actor to play Laura,” Ray explained.

“They have to be aged between 24 and 36 and preferably have some acting experience, be it theatrical or musical.

“It’s a challenging role but I think whoever gets the role will be proud to add this project to their CV.”

As well as being able to act, the ideal candidate, according to Ray must be able to deliver a complex performance.

“Laura is someone who is suffering from mental health issues, so she’s a complex character,” Ray continued.

“But at the same time, people who have read the script have said to me that they can relate to Laura.

“Despite having mental health issues, Laura has taken to stand up comedy to dish out her criticism of the world.

“I’m basically looking for someone to help me tell a story that, up until now, hasn’t been told.”

He added, “I’d like to start filming before the Autumn is out. It’s a five day shoot, max.
