A STRABANE teacher who was nominated for a top childcare award says she is delighted to be recognised in her profession.
Ann Maguire has taught in Sion Mills Primary School for over 30 years and was recently nominated for the Families First NI Nursery Teacher of the Year award by a local parent.
Speaking about the nomination Ms Maguire said, “I am honoured and humbled to have been nominated never mind being shortlisted for this award.
“A parent of one of my pupils nominated me and for someone to do that and think I am worthy of such an accolade, really means a lot.
“There are so many good teachers out there,” continued Ms Maguire, “and I am excited and looking forward to the awards ceremony to celebrate the work of teachers with my friends and colleagues.”
Ms Maguire started teaching in 1983. She spent three years at Loreto Grammar School Omagh before moving to Sion Mills PS in 1986.
Encouraged to attend the event by her principal Oonagh McNelis, Ms Maguire added, “Everyone has been so supportive and kind about my nomination from my principal to the parents, and the kindness they have all shown me is something I won’t forget.”
Ms Maguire is just one of number local teachers up for an award which will take place at the Abbey Hotel,  Donegal, tomorrow Saturday October 7.
