The senior ladies team which claimed bronze.

THE Finn Valley Centre, in Stranorlar, was the venue for the Donegal Senior Cross-Country Championship where Lifford Strabane AC was represented in a total of five races.

The action commenced with the senior ladies race between four teams, who battled their way around a very heavy and muddy 5K course, which resulted in the Lifford Strabane team finishing third overall.

The ladies team was led home by Claire McGuigan, who narrowly missed out on an individual bronze medal in a sprint finish to the line.

McGuigan’s team mate, Jessica Moorehead, fresh to the cross-country scene and making great strides, was next home, followed by Dympna Houston, a week after running a personal best at the Dublin Marathon, and Veronika McGillian.

In the senior men’s 10k race, all 8 team members impressed, but they just missed out on a medal with a fourth placed finish. Young Alan McGinley led the Lifford Strabane men home, followed by Conor Gallagher, Niall Elliott, Garreth McCullagh, Enda McNulty, a week after finishing the Dublin Marathon, Kevin McMenamin, Martin Kelly, who ran a personal best at the Dublin City Marathon, and Oliver Barrett.

In the relays, the under-12 girls’ team won the gold medal, thanks to excellent runs from Ella Costello, Elsa Moore, Eimear McFadden and Ashleigh McArdle.

The under-10 girls’ team of Jaime McGinley, Faustina Gibson, AoibhinnO’Donnell and Ava Crawford produced a fine team performance, as did the boys’ under-14 team of Diarmuid O’Donnell, Jack Moore, Cormac O’Donnell and Oran Gallagher, with the latter finishing fifth overall.
