One of Tyrone’s best loved bands are preparing for a cracker of a gig at the Alley Theatre this weekend.

Castlederg folk rockers The Logues will bring their blistering set to the town on Saturday, (December 30), with a brass section helping bring some festive cheer.
Still reeling from several high octane shows around Europe and a number of single releases, 2017 has been by no means quiet for The Logues.

Speaking to the Chronicle band member Chris Speer reflected on an extremely successful year for the band. “This year has been an amazing year for the band in many ways,” he said. “For one, we have travelled extensively and played venues in Germany, Italy and all around Europe. Closer to home we have played around Ireland and the North, and even managed to squeeze in a few unreal gigs in Castlederg. Here’s hoping 2018 brings even bigger and better things!”

Looking ahead to show which has become something of a tradition for the band at the Alley, Chris predicted an even bigger year for The Logues.

“In 2018, we will be heading Stateside to play a number of live gigs,” he explained. “It has always been an aspiration of the band to go to the USA and follow the footsteps of other prolific folk bands. With other exciting things in the pipeline such as a trip to Germany, we hope 2018 will be a cracker.”

Still on a high from several performances around Europe, The Logues enjoyed a recent chilled-out afternoon in Castlederg with the launch of their first ever line of t-shirts at the end of November. The launch took place in the Country Cabin, which Chris felt was the perfect location.

“At the end of the day, we wouldn’t be where we are today without the continued support of Castlederg folk. We could have selected another shop in another town for the launch, but we were keen to keep things local as a mark of our appreciation. Having t-shirts available for our numerous fans will allow us to start 2018 the right way.”

But what has been the highlight of 2017 for Castlederg’s most influential band?

“It was without a doubt Dergfest,” said Chris. “As a continually growing event, the vibe in Castlederg was amazing and simply great craic all round. The Logues’ heart will always lie in the Derg, sir!”

Tickets for the Alley gig are available from the box office on 71384444.
