Strabane native Stephen Maguire was joint winner of the Coach of the Year award at the 2017 BBC Sports Personality big bash in Liverpool’s Echo Arena on Sunday night.
Maguire was jointly recognised along with Benke Blomkvist and Christian Malcolm in helping the GB’s men’s 4x100m team to World Championship gold.
All four of Britain’s relay teams medalled at the championship and the 4 X 100 quartet of CJ Ujah, Adam Gemili, Danny Talbot and Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake claimed a first ever gold for GB in London.
Following Sunday evening’s presentation Maguire said, “It came together that night, I was afraid to look at the screen but the guys did an unbelievable job.
“Massive recognition to their coaches, we get the cream on the cake, but they have done all the work.”
