Young thespians from St Columba’s Primary School are currently putting the finishing touches to their sensational Christmas pageant which is bound for the Alley Theatre.

Taking place on Tuesday, December  12 and Wednesday, December 13 at 7.30pm, the production is guaranteed to be a festive treat for all the family.

The pageant will see each and every pupil in the school involved. The first part of the play will see year one and two pupils bringing the Nativity to life in the story of ‘Mend the Manger.’

Next years three to seven will tell the exciting tale of ‘Rainmaker’, which follows the story of a group of children in a drought ridden country embarking on a journey to find the Lord of the Rain.

Year seven pupil Kim Hamilton, who plays the role of Chep, discovers her true colours as she helps the rainmakers to overthrow the evil Kongan Hab, played by Sean McLaughlin.

An overall cast of 90 pupils will take the audience through a vivid tale full of twists, turns and drama, and is guaranteed to leave a lasting impression.

Lead actor, Kim Hamilton, is looking forward to starring in the engaging production.

“I love playing Chep, because I sing some beautiful songs and have a lot of lines, and it is a challenge,” she said.  “From the very first time we read the script, I knew I wanted that part. We have been rehearsing Rainmaker for the past three weeks, and it has been a lot of fun. I can’t wait for the night of the play.”

Colette Maguire, school principal and director, is certain the show will prove a hit with young and old alike.

“Rainmaker has a spiritual message and it transports the pupils and the audience to another time and place,” she explained.

“The story and music provide a wealth of material for school work across the curriculum, and also links to environmental themes. It is an event not to be missed.”
