Orlaith sets sights on Glór Tíre success

Orlaith Fury who is representing Tyrone in Ireland’s biggest country music talent show Glor Tire.

PLUMBRIDGE singer Orlaith Furey made her first singing appearance on TG4’s Glór Tíre on Tuesday night.

The 22-year-old, who sang the classic Philomena Begley song, ‘I’ll Be All Smiles Tonight’ says despite the tough competition in this year’s show, she’s hoping for plenty of votes from locals to help carry her through to the next round.

“I’m singing again on February 6 and then it goes to the live shows in March,” Orlaith explained.

“From now until March me staying in the competition all depends on the public vote, so hopefully local people will vote for me.

“It’s hard to know how it’s going to go… everyone is very, very good. I’m the only person from the North in it, so that has to be a positive.”

The former Holy Cross College student completed her degree in music last year from the Ulster University.

However since she was picked to take part in Glór Tíre Orlaith has been making more and more guest appearances around the country.

On Friday night past, she sang with country music legend, Robert Mizzell at the Silverbirch Hotel in Omagh.

“It was the most unbelievable experience,” she continued.

“Robert is such a gentleman and even though it as just that one time, singing with him gave me great confidence.

“I’m the only one of the singers on Glór Tíre who isn’t already established. This is a starting point for me whereas it might be a stepping stone for the others. It really does mean so much to me.”

The voting remains open ahead of Orlaith’s next appearance on Glór Tíre on February 6 and indeed, the live shows in March. To vote, download the Glór Tíre app or text Glor4 to 60999 or call 0901 6566104.
