THE son of the Strabane woman whose body was recovered from the River Foyle yesterday has paid tribute to all those who have helped his family since she went missing nearly five weeks ago.
Extending his thanks to those involved in the search for his mum, Lesley McHugh’s son Damien said, “On behalf of the McHugh family I would like to say thanks to everyone in the community who have helped us in any way over the last four and a half weeks. Thankfully our mother has been returned to us. May she rest in peace.”
Mrs McHugh (69) was reported missing on January 6 and extensive searches over a wide area followed her disappearance.
Leading the searches was Sean McCarry from the Community Rescue Service. He explained Mrs McHugh’s body was recovered at 2.24pm on Wednesday, February 7.
He also added his thanks to all those who helped out with the searches saying, “I offer sincere condolences to the family and family circle. I would also like to thank the people of Strabane who helped with the search, and to the people, shop keepers and schools who kept our volunteers fed. The support received during the hunt for this woman was tremendous.”
