STRABANE musician Mark Donnelly has drummed up local interest after an excerpt of his beat ended up on an Oscar nominated film.
Stephen Spielberg’s ‘The Post’ features a score composed by a variety of world-wide musical talents, including none other than Mark himself.
According to the Strabane man, providing the brief drum track for the film was a huge honour.
“Although I had a small part to play, it was great to be involved. When I was approached about providing some drum tracks for films by a guy called Ed Raddel, I thought it was for a smaller project or an independent film. I had no idea it would make it onto the soundtrack of such a huge film.”
As a drum enthusiast, Mark operates his own online business where he provides custom made drum tracks for customers around the world. Through his website, he was approached about the project.
“At first I thought Ed was taking the hand, as he is a bit of a joker. It took a long time to sink in when I realised the track was featured. It just goes to show that those wanting to get their work out there don’t necessarily have to be in a hub of musical activity. It doesn’t matter where in the world you are, you can still get noticed with the right contacts and some hard work.”
Despite the film receiving rave reviews from critics and a range of award nominations, Mark admits he has yet to see ‘The Post’.
“This sounds bad of me but I never got around to seeing it in the cinema,” he laughed. “I never got the chance, but I am eagerly awaiting the DVD release to hear the drumming for myself.
“Through my website, eatsleepdrums.com, people can get in touch with me for any drumming, recording or mixing services. It also hosts a lot of examples of my work that people can check out.”
