Gormley Opticians in Strabane are now offering an advanced new method of checking the health of your eye known as ‘Optomap Ultra Wide Field Retinal Imaging’. This advanced technology carried out by a machine known as the Daytona Plus has just been installed at the practice and can capture more than 80% of your retina in one image (typical methods reveal only 10-15%.) With such a wide field of vision offered as part of your eye exam, early signs of many diseases, retinal and others can be picked up long before you notice any symptoms. You can now avail of a complete highly advanced Eye Exam at Gormley Opticians by combining Advanced 3D OCT Scanning and Daytona Plus Optomap technology to reveal the most detailed view possible of the inside of your eyes.
FREE for kids!
At Gormley Opticians, we feel strongly that all kids should be able to avail of ‘Optomap Ultra Wide Field Retinal Imaging’. For this reason, all kids tested with us will have it carried out at NO CHARGE (Normal Price £25) whenever possible (Age 7 or 8 upwards is a good guide to start with). We all want the best for our children and good vision is essential for their physical and educational development. Most children have healthy eyes, but a few are born with eye diseases or disorders which may not be obvious. Signs of other diseases like diabetes can also show on the retina.
Early detection is vital!
Early detection means that treatment can be given to protect you or your child’s sight and overall wellbeing. Give your child the best start in life by ensuring that they receive regular eye checks from an early age. Gormley Opticians are committed to the highest standard of eye care and we would like to give your child the opportunity to have an Optomap Retinal Image. This exam was developed by a father whose child lost the sight in one eye due to an undetected retinal detachment.
What can happen to the Retina
The retina is the only place in the body where blood vessels can be seen directly. This means that in addition to eye conditions, signs of other diseases (for example, stroke, heart disease, hypertension and diabetes) can be seen in the retina. ‘Optomap Ultra Wide Field Retinal Imaging’ can offer early detection so treatments can be administered.
What the Optomap does
The optomap produces an image that is unique and provides us with a high-resolution 200° image to check the health of your retina. This is much wider than a Retinal Camera’s 45° image. Many eye problems can develop without you knowing – in fact, you may not even notice any change in your sight. Fortunately, diseases or damage such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, retinal tears or detachments can be seen with a thorough exam of the retina. The inclusion of optomap as part of a comprehensive eye exam provides:
• A scan to show a healthy eye or detect disease.
• A view of the retina, giving us a more comprehensive view than other methods.
• The opportunity for you to view and discuss the optomap image of your eye with us at the time of your exam.
• A permanent record for your file, which allows us to view your images over time and look for changes.
The optomap is fast, easy, painless and comfortable for anyone. The entire image process consists of you looking into the device one eye at a time. The optomap images are shown immediately on a computer screen so we can review it with you. Why not give us a call today to make an appointment for yourself or your child.
