NEWTOWNSTEWART won the battle of the St Eugene’s 1-12 t0 0-08 in Friday evening’s Tyrone Junior Club Championship quarter-final at Healy Park.
Opponents and neighbours Castlederg flew out of the traps to establish a 0-6 to 0-1 lead but the Newtown men, aided by the dismissal of three Derg players, slowly but surely took control with Kevin Gallagher netting the only goal of the game.
The Newtown men will now meet Clogher who were 1-13 to 0-13 victors over Rock at Loughmacrory. This game was always in the balance but an early second half strike by Conor Shields gave Clogher the edge and they duly held on to maintain their ambitions of a league and championship double.
Beragh Red Knights will meanwhile meet Killeeshil in the other semi-final after a thrilling 1-15 to 0-16 victory over Eskra at Healy Park on Friday night.
The last eight clash was in the melting pot throughout until two late points sealed the deal for the Red Knights. Martin Rodgers topped scored for Beragh with a goal and five points while Ryan Gartland and Joe McCarroll registered four points apiece for the losers.
At Loughmacrory Killeeshil powered past Drumragh. Goals by the two Shanes, Cleary and Devine, wasn’t enough for the Sarsfields as their opponents, helped by 1-6 from the boot of Pascal Donaghy, ensured their place in the last four.
